B. Laing Associates' founding member and former owner, Mr. Bontje has been a practicing wetlands and mitigation scientist for more than 40 years.
For NYCEDC, he has been involved in marine habitat assessment, permitting and mitigation for the New York Yankees Minor league baseball stadium in Staten Island and the Bush Terminal inter-pier solid waste fill in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. For other clients, he has been involved in impact assessment, mitigation, restoration construction and permitting in New York City and throughout Long Island. Mr. Bontje is not only familiar with planning and permitting of freshwater and tidal systems, but has also been involved in their construction and monitoring. He has delineated or reviewed projects in both freshwater and tidal situations. He is known for both creative and cost effective problem solving. For example, his work for Exxon Corporation resulted in the first ever establishment of an active wetland recovery following a major oil spill (located in the Arthur Kill). He has conducted this work extensively on over a thousand locations/parcels throughout Mid Atlantic and New England states. Additionally, he has practiced in many States and several international locations. Mr. Bontje's experience brings a breadth and depth of both theoretical and practical knowledge that can and will be applied to the proposed project. Mr. Bontje also provides guidance to B. Laing Associates' teams in Air Quality and Noise analysis. He has four decades of experience in computer programming, modeling and the practical application of mathematics (in calculus and logarithmic math). This has resulted in his modeling projects and intersection for hundreds of locations/parcels throughout Mid Atlantic and New England States.
